Most padel players strive to be better. The sport can be practiced in a playful way, but almost all of us have a competitive side that makes us want to progress to achieve better shots, to play against our friends or to go further in tournaments. This ambition leads us to teach classes, watch videos, train hard, improve our physical fitness and invest in buy padel equipment.

If we focus on the material part we can acquire better padel shoes, one professional padel racket and all kinds of accessories with which to take care of every detail of our game. However, today we come to talk about a product that is not always taken into account, but that can be decisive in our game, the overgrip.

Why is overgrip so important in padel? The overgrip is the part with which our body makes direct contact with the racket. If the padel racket is our main tool, the overgrip is the tape that covers the handle on which we place our hand. It is decisive that it is comfortable for us because if not it will be of little value to have a round or diamond-shaped blade, whether or not it is made of carbon, or that has roughness on the faces.

The first point of comfort when holding the racket is provided by the overgrip, and it is important to know how to choose ours to find our comfort. This tape has a very thin thickness and is usually placed on top of the grip that comes from the factory, but each player places it differently according to your tastes.

There are those who put it directly on the handle, those who put it shorter and those who lengthen it to the bridge of the blade. It is also very common to see players who use a single overgrip and others who use 2, 3 and even 5 strips. The latter is mainly done by players with very large hands who want a very thick handle.

Among the overgrips we find two types, smooth and perforated. The difference is the feel (we recommend trying both) and that the perforated ones have those little holes that can give us extra sweat absorption. Of course, the perforated ones tend to wear out sooner, keep that in mind.

Of course, we can also find them in white, black or colors. However, most players prefer the white overgrip because it has less pigmentation. They provide a little more grip.

some accessories that work very well with the overgrip are, for example, the wipe Nox which Miguel Lamperti (one of the WPT players) uses to improve grip or Ariv, which is placed under the grip to absorb vibrations and prevent injuries.

Another accessory that is also closely related is the famous hesacore of Bullpadel, which is placed above the handle and under the overgrip. This helps you gain that desired thickness, in addition to providing a bit of shape and making the handle more comfortable. It also helps you dissipate vibrations. Now you can find it in white or pink.

In PadelPROShop you can find a variety of paddle overgripsl of the best brands on the market, Head, Bullpadel, Babolat, Adidas, Nox and many more. You can find them in white, black or different colors so you can combine them with the design of your racket. In addition, there is the possibility of purchasing them in drums (boxes) to have large quantities if you use many or to share them with friends or club colleagues. This option is always cheaper.

How to put an overgrip

Putting an overgrip on seems like a simple task (and it actually is), but it can get a little complicated if we don't have experience and it's the first time we put it on our racket.

To begin, we must unroll it and remove the transparent plastic it contains so that it does not get stained. Then we will take the thinner end and start winding it from the end of the handle from which the rope comes out. It is important to pull hard so that it is well fixed and does not move when we play with the paddle. As we go around we will overlap it slightly until the handle ends. Then we will trim the excess with scissors and finish securing it with the adhesive tape that comes with the overgrip.
