You choose the ball. A couple of boats. You look at the rival. And you hit the ball where you planned. This is the most classic beginning of each match. The starting point of each game. With a good serve we can win the court from the first hit. And although technique is essential in the serve, it is even more important to know the rules of the paddle serve.

Next to the game rules, Respecting the rules of the paddle serve is the basis that every player must know before playing amateur matches.

What are the rules of the serve?

For the serve to be valid and the game to continue, the following requirements must be met:

  1. The serve must be taken behind the service line located 3 meters away from the back glass.

  1. The serving player (who serves) must have both feet behind the aforementioned service line. Only when the racket hits the ball can you overtake them.

  1. Before impact, the server will bounce the ball on the ground to execute the serve.

  1. The hit will be made at or below waist height but can never exceed the hip. Additionally, until the hit occurs, the server will have at least one foot on the ground.

  1. The ball must go to the opponent's field, in a diagonal direction and, above all, go over the net without touching it.

Has the serve complied with the 5 rules? Then the serve is valid. However, it is common for situations of conflict or doubt to arise. What if the ball has touched the net? If the ball hits the fence, is it valid? For all cases of uncertainty, the regulation sheds light on the matter.  that it is more illuminated and that the network is clear and the rest blurred

When is the serve invalid?

The first and simplest case occurs when the ball does not bounce inside the opponent's box. In this case the serve is not valid.

By simple chance, the ball can bounce inside the opposite box and hit the fence. When this happens, the serve will not be good either.

It was also not necessary to point out that when the ball bounces in the opponent's court and goes directly out of the door on a court with no outside playing space, the serve will be directly invalidated.

And one of the most frequent cases during the serve, what happens when the ball hits the net. Well, when the ball touches the net or the posts that support it and then falls into the opponent's field, the service will be net. Translated into the game, net implies that the serve must be repeated. And if the same thing happened again, the serve would be repeated again.

Subtract the serve

The returner or player receiving the serve must comply with the rules of the paddle serve. The first of all will be to wait for the ball to bounce first before you can hit it.

Additionally, if the ball hits the receiver or his partner during the serve, both the player and the serve will be considered.

How to perform a serve in paddle tennis?

Now that we have seen the rules of the serve, we come to the technique. Getting a good serve allows us to take the initiative of the game and win the net from the first shot. And, what better way to do it than with the best padel racket brands.

Whether he opts for a slice, topspin or flat serve will depend on the player's experience. The last of all, the flat serve, is one of the easiest and safest of all possible.

The flat serve has no spin and we can control the speed of the ball. It is normal to resort to it when we want to secure the serve, especially if we are on the second serve.

On the other hand, with the cut serve we were able to give spin to the ball and make it difficult for the receiver to receive. The main advantage of the slice serve is its limited bounce against the wall, just the main difference with the topspin serve, which achieves a more aggressive bounce of the ball.

As we have been saying, the serve is one of the most basic strokes in paddle tennis. Knowledge of the regulations is basic but so is their execution. You will know that you will master the serve when the ball goes where you had decided, with the desired spin and speed. Only in this way will you finally win the network from the first moment and dominate the game from the beginning.
