How to count points in Padel?

¿Cómo contar puntos en pádel?

Finding the seven differences between Padel and Padel is easy, but if one thing is certain, it is that the scoring system is not among those seven. Although both sports share scores, in recent years, Padel has set a distance with standards such as the gold point.

Far from the official regulations, knowing the rules of padel scoring will prevent the blades from flying through the air on more than one occasion. The most disputed situations occur at decisive points. The tighter the game is, the more necessary it is to know the scoring rules.

Game point in Padel

Padel kick

In order to pronounce the long-awaited game, set and match, maintaining the highest level in each game and set will be essential. The score in Padel during a game is called with nothing, 15, 30, 40 and game.

The first couple to win a point will add 15 points to the scoreboard, the second point will add 30, the third 40 and the last will mean the game.

In the event that both couples tie at 40 points, two consecutive points are needed to win the game. This case is called a Deuce or game. If a couple gets the first point (advantage) but fails to get the second in a row, the score goes back to 40-40. Until one of the couples manages to win two points in a row, this situation can be repeated as many times as necessary.

Score in set padel

Reaching victory is synonymous with having won two of the three sets played. Each match consists of three sets and to win it is necessary to win at least two of them. Therefore, if a couple wins two sets in a row, it will not be necessary to play the third.

To win a set, six games are required with a minimum difference of two. If the game reaches a draw at 5 games, then 7 games will have to be played, that is, until it reaches 7-5. And if there is finally a tie at 6 games, the set is sentenced with a tie-break.

How many points is the tie break?

In the tie-break or sudden death, the points are called with 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. The first couple to reach 7 points with a lead of two wins the tie-break.

Thus, in sudden death the service order of the previous set is preserved. The first serve is done from the right side. After the first serve, the next two services are performed by the rival couple and so on until reaching 7 points. Thus, whoever wins the tie-break wins the set.

Another modality to solve a set supposes to apply the super tie-break. Either by agreement between the players or by order of the competition, matches that tie at 6 games may be resolved with a super tie-break to ten points. Consequently, the tie-break is won by the couple that reaches 10 points with an advantage of two.

World Padel Tour Score

The score in the maximum Padel competition follows the aforementioned rules. The matches are played to the best of three sets, however, since 2020, a rule has been introduced that has divided the world of Padel: the golden point.

What is the golden point in Padel?

The golden point has replaced the classic Deuce. According to the new system, when 40-40 is reached, the next point resolves the tie situation. As a novelty, the remaining couple can decide the side where the service will take place. With racket and ball in hand, both couples play the set in a single game.

This measure replaced the usual tiebreaker model. The reason for the change was the duration of the matches. In addition, the players have 20 seconds from the end of the point and the beginning of the next one. All the decisions made were aimed at achieving faster games and, ultimately, shorter matches that would attract more viewers on WPT broadcasts.
